In 1492, two sisters, Isabel and Clara, face persecution in Spain after the decree that Jews must convert, go into exile, or face trial and execution. They find refuge in Venice, where Isabel helps refugees escape the Inquisition while Clara falls in love with a noble, Paolo Zane.
