Lt. Andre Saint-Avit, a French Foreign Legion officer, is found unconscious in the Sahara Desert after a three-month disappearance. He had been searching for an archaeologist with his partner, Capt. Jean Morhange, in Algeria's Hoggar Mountains, only to be captured and taken to the lost kingdom of Atlantis. There, they were confined by Queen Antinea, an immortal ruler with a penchant for taking lovers and then preserving them as ornamental statues after they fall out of favor. Andre is seduced by Antinea, but when she tires of him, he is left confused and jealous, ultimately killing Jean in a fit of rage. Despite confessing to the crime, Andre is acquitted by his superiors, but the truth is revealed when a mysterious rider from Atlantis arrives at the fort with a familiar necklace.
