In the year 2199, the spaceship Yamato receives a crucial system and attempts to leave the Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy. However, it's confronted by a mysterious group called Gatlantis, led by Commander Goran Dagam of Thunder. He demands the surrender of Yamato, but the crew escapes and is attacked by a devastating beam weapon. The ship becomes lost and enters a strange, irregular dimension. The crew decides to shut down the engines and explore a nearby planet, where they discover a mysterious ship that shouldn't be there. Meanwhile, Dagam pursues Yamato's trail and arrives at the same planet, which turns out to be his long-sought destination.
