Cecil Benton's sudden death from a hidden cardiac condition sets off a chain of events in his small-town flower shop, Bouquet, which is on the brink of collapse. His daughter, Terri, a Manhattan corporate executive, is too ashamed to admit her financial struggles and recent job loss due to the economic slump to attend her father's funeral on time. Meanwhile, her sister Mandy, who works at a cooperative, feels overshadowed by her family's secrets. Amidst the chaos, an unlikely hero emerges in the form of Sam, a former Iraq war veteran who has been working at the nursery without pay, having been taken in by Cecil after he dropped out of med school.
