The Count background

The Count

Charlie Chaplin stars in his fifth Mutual film, highlighting the stark contrasts between the lavish lifestyles of the wealthy and the desperate circumstances of the poor.

In this hilarious film, a hapless tailor accidentally sets a count's pants ablaze, leading to his own dismissal. The tailor then takes the count's place at a dinner invitation from the wealthy Miss Moneybags, while the real count is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Charlie becomes smitten with the cook, but so do the butler and a policeman, leading to a chaotic and comedic kitchen scene. When the real count unexpectedly appears, Charlie must think fast and pretend to be the count's trusted secretary to avoid being discovered.
