Jerome Littlefield, a former med school student, wreaks havoc as an orderly in a private rest home, driving the head doctor, Jean Howard, to the brink of exhaustion. When a chatty patient, Mrs. Fuzzibee, shares her ailments with Jerome, he develops psychosomatic symptoms mirroring hers. Meanwhile, Jerome secretly pays for the stay of his high school crush, Susan Andrews, who's recovering from a suicide attempt, and helps her regain confidence, much to the dismay of his girlfriend, Julie Blair, a nurse with her sights set on marrying Jerome.
