Duncan, a philosophical nomad, hitchhikes to Ann Arbor, Michigan with Toad, a performance artist. They arrive in a town filled with eccentric characters, including Toad's sister Jenny, who's engaged to a verbally abusive law student, and her best friend Squeeze, who's in a relationship with a painter who's trying to make it big on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Duncan's simple outlook and curiosity inspire change in the lives of those he meets, including a sociopathic DJ and a group of quirky individuals.
