The Hoodlum Priest background

The Hoodlum Priest

The inspiring true story of Fr. Charles Clark, a devoted minister who spent his life uplifting and strengthening street gangs.

A St. Louis-based Jesuit priest, Father Charles Dismas Clark, leaves his Catholic high school assignment to guide convicts and ex-cons, helping them reintegrate into society by finding them housing and employment. He clashes with authorities who want him to betray their trust, even in criminal matters. With the help of lawyer Louis Rosen, Father Clark assists young ex-con Billy Lee Jackson, who's destined to recommit crimes. Father Clark helps Billy find a job and a place to live, and he even finds love with socialite Ellen Henley. However, Billy's tempted to return to crime if he feels he's not getting a fair chance. Meanwhile, journalist George McHale tries to write an exposé on Father Clark, who's protecting criminals, while glorifying crime in his stories.
