The Old Oak background

The Old Oak

In a quaint village in Northeast England, a beloved pub faces uncertain times as the local mines close, leading to a mass exodus of residents. However, the village's fortunes begin to shift when Syrian refugees arrive, seeking refuge and a new beginning in the affordable community.

In a once-thriving mining community, The Old Oak is the last remaining pub where people can gather. Its landlord, TJ Ballantyne, struggles to keep it afloat despite 30 years of decline. The pub's fate is further threatened when Syrian refugees arrive in the village without warning, leading to tensions between the communities. An unlikely friendship forms between TJ and a curious young Syrian woman named Yara, who captures the world through her camera lens. As they navigate their differences, they must find a way for their communities to understand and coexist, revealing a deeply moving drama about hope and resilience.
