A cowboy, Ko'olau, and his son Kalei contract the disease and resist authorities, leading to a violent clash. Ko'olau flees with his family to a hidden valley, joining other refugees. Pursued by mercenaries, they face a final confrontation that will make Ko'olau and his wife, Pi'ilani, legendary heroes in Hawaii's history.
