Thomas and Diesel have a rivalry, with Diesel trying to prove himself by racing Thomas. However, a bridge accident hinders Diesel's efforts. Thomas rescues Diesel and is rewarded with a trip to the mainland. After a chain breaks, Thomas becomes stranded on Misty Island with a group of troublesome locomotives. They try to cross a tunnel but get trapped in a cave-in. Thomas uses his engine smoke to signal for help and is eventually rescued.
