A Perilous Journey background

A Perilous Journey

A desperate wife, Francie Landereaux, disguises herself as a barter-bride, embarking on a treacherous journey to California alongside 28 other women, all of whom are about to be sold to the highest bidder.

A group of 29 women embark on a voyage to California as part of a barter-bride deal, where any eligible man can purchase a wife. Unbeknownst to the organizers, one of the women, Francie, is already married to a fugitive who abandoned her, and she's on a mission to find him. When Francie's husband is caught by Shard Benton in Panama, she takes a job with Monty Breed, an old adversary of Benton's. However, her husband returns and is killed by Breed, leading to a high-stakes gamble between Benton and Breed with Francie as the prize.
