Jack Kelson, a former convict, is released from prison after serving five years for robbery and is tracked down by his 14-year-old son, Nick. Despite Jack's initial reluctance, Nick wants to be with his father and they try to make a life together in a rundown hotel in a low-income neighborhood in Seattle. Jack, who wants to turn his life around, tries to dissuade Nick from following in his footsteps, but Nick is drawn into a group of street youth after falling for a teen prostitute named Molly. As tensions rise, Jack's old criminal associate Ray appears, trying to lure him back into his old life.
