A group of sinister villains, known as "The Alliance", lure the Taxpayer into a trap, subjecting him to brutal imprisonment, torture, and a public crucifixion. In response, a janitor-turned-activist, Richard Randolph, assembles a team of retired superheroes to stage a daring rescue mission.
