Tom and Cora Elliott's social life takes a toll on their relationship with their children, Mary and Les. Les's friend Mike gets him into trouble when he accidentally shoots Les, and Mary becomes infatuated with Joe, Mason's son. As tensions rise, Joe is expelled from school and enlists in the Army after taking responsibility for an accident caused by Mike.
