On a Connecticut farm, two brothers, James Mayo's sons, vie for the affection of Ruth Atkins. The younger, sickly son, dreams of a romantic escape beyond the horizon, while his hardworking brother is devoted to his family. When Ruth reveals her love for the younger brother, the family's plans are disrupted, leading to a tragic outcome for all.
