In the early 1950s, a group of volunteers, including a professor, prosecutor, dairyman, saxophonist, barber, and young cook, work in a Prague scrapyard amidst the remnants of industrial society. The yard is also home to female prisoners serving a year for attempting to defect.

Three individuals from different walks of life - a professor, a saxophonist, and a milkman - are forced to confront their privileged upbringings and work together in a junkyard to overcome their own personal biases and limitations.
