Biography

Jaroslav Satoranský began his career as a sculptor, but simultaneously started acting in amateur theater, which led him to study at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). After graduating from the drama program in 1961, he joined the J. Průcha Theatre in Kladno (1963-1966) and later transferred to the Vinohrady Theatre in Prague (1966). In the theatre, he had numerous opportunities, primarily in classical repertoire (Macbeth, King Lear, Maryša, Strakonický dudák, Legenda o lásce).

Before appearing in front of the film camera, Satoranský first appeared in the children's detective film ZPÍVAJÍCÍ PUDŘENKA (1959),and then got a slightly larger role in the family psychological drama with a propagandist undertone OSENÍ (1960). After a few more films, he got the lead role in the musical comedy BYLO NÁS DESET (1963); he invested a lot of time and effort into this once popular film.

Throughout the 1960s, Satoranský played smaller roles in a range of films, comedies, and dramas, including five films in 1967. From the late 1960s, he also appeared in television series, one of the first being ZÁHADA HLAVOLAMU (1969),followed by F. L. VĚK (1971).

He continued to film, but these films are now largely forgotten. His main focus has been television, which brought him great popularity through his roles in series such as NEJMLADŠÍ Z RODU HAMRŮ (1975) and INŽENÝRSKÁ ODYSEA (1979),although the societal engagement of these works and their time-limited nature have been debated.

For his role as Jan Hamra, Satoranský received the Golden Crocodile television award in 1976. He also created timeless value through his participation in the beloved children's series KRKONOŠSKÉ POHÁDKY (1974).

He last appeared in a film as a policeman in the children's detective film TŘETÍ SKOBA PRO KOCOURA (1983),after which he worked exclusively for television. He acted in series, fairy tales, and television productions, including notable historical stories such as PŘÍPAD AUFFENBERG (1993) and MISIE (1994),in which he played lead roles.

In recent years, Jaroslav Satoranský could be seen in the popular series ČETNICKÉ HUMORESKY (1997).
