In Havana, a young government employee named Carla Perez finds solace in writing at the local post office. She uses her job to help her colleagues find happiness and love, but her efforts don't go unnoticed. Carla's parents, who are exiled in Miami, enter her name into the U.S. immigration lottery, and she's unexpectedly chosen for an interview. Now, Carla must decide between a future in Cuba or a new life in Miami, planned by others.
