Maharaja Arunangshu, the ruler of Balabantpur, makes a wish list on his deathbed, including conditions for his heir, Himangshu, such as marrying a Hindu girl and producing a legitimate heir within three years. Himangshu marries Alaka, an aspiring actress, but a year and a half later, the palace librarian, Harinath, disappears. Byomkesh and his friend Ajit are invited to the palace for a hunting expedition, but they uncover a web of secrets and clues that lead them to suspect the royal physician, Kaligati, of being behind Harinath's disappearance.
