At a Big Bear resort, a group of characters converge, including Dr. Lanson, an atomic scientist, and his acquaintances. Meanwhile, a group of young communists, including Burke and Johnny, plot to steal Lanson's papers. Amidst the scheming, a romance blossoms between Donna and Ralph Payne, an F.B.I agent on a skiing vacation. However, things take a deadly turn when Nolan, working with the communists, murders Lanson after discovering him copying the plans. The killing is witnessed by Peggy, who steals the documents while making it seem like Lanson died in a skiing accident. The investigation is taken over by Paul Malone, Payne's supervisor, and Sheriff Bowman.
