Chad, a young man from Kentucky, faces a series of challenges after his foster family's death. However, Chad struggles to fit in with the wealthy elite due to his humble background. He finds love with a young woman, but her family rejects him due to his social status. As the Civil War breaks out, Chad is torn between his loyalty to his adoptive family and his moral opposition to slavery. He ultimately decides to join the Union Army, facing his former friends and family on the battlefield.
