A group of gangsters steal a valuable brood-mare named Larkspur from the Conway Ranch in Arizona, leaving her three-month-old colt to find its way to the Carey farm. The colt, later named Sunset, is adopted by 16-year-old orphan David Carey, who tries to help the colt grow stronger. However, when David discovers the truth about the colt's parentage, he must decide whether to return the horse to its rightful owners or keep it for himself.
