A classical violinist, Roger Grant, shocks his family and teacher by forming a jazz band, which surprisingly achieves great success. As he falls for his singer Stella, he struggles to let her pursue a solo career, ultimately causing her to marry his best friend Charlie. Years later, Roger returns from war and a pivotal Carnegie Hall concert reunites the star-crossed lovers and his friend, rekindling the romantic triangle.
