Philo, a US Government agent, is sent to Vienna to investigate Archer Coe's aircraft design alleged sales to foreign powers. He obtains the plans, but is caught by police and deported. Returning to America, Philo intends to confront Archer, only to find him dead in his locked bedroom with a gun nearby. Despite initial appearances suggesting suicide, further examination reveals multiple wounds, making it unlikely Archer took his own life.
