Playboy Larry Blendon introduces his fiancée, radio singer Virginia Berneaux, to his grandmother, despite his history of broken romances. Virginia is murdered, and Larry is killed soon after. Philo Vance is called in to investigate, and he discovers that Larry's will leaves his fortune to six women, including Virginia and his former wives. The motive for the killings is revealed to be the will, and suspicion falls on Lorena Sims, a former wife who had access to poison at a sanitarium.
