Jeanne Eagels' rise to fame in the 1910s and 1920s is reimagined in this film. After losing a rigged beauty pageant, Jeanne joins a traveling carnival and catches the eye of organizer Sal Satori, who helps her develop her acting skills. She eventually achieves success on Broadway and in Hollywood, but her rapid ascent takes a toll and she turns to substance abuse. Despite her many relationships, Sal remains a constant presence in her life, and she ultimately meets a tragic end.
