Gene Autry returns to his hometown of Torpedo for the Frontier Days Celebration, only to find his childhood enemies, the Wildhack brothers, now local gangsters. When their violence endangers the town's children, Gene threatens to expose them on his radio broadcast. However, the Wildhacks stop the broadcast and beat him up, leading Gene to decide to stay in Torpedo and get back in shape. With the help of his friends, Gene avenges himself against the Wildhacks and eventually runs for sheriff to clean up their political machine.
