The 1950s comedy show, "The King Kaiser Show," is a pioneering program in the early years of television. When charismatic actor Alan Swann, known for his film roles, is set to appear as a guest star, junior writer Benjy Stone sees an opportunity to make a lasting impression. However, the show's headliner, King Kaiser, has other plans and attempts to sabotage Swann's appearance. As Benjy tries to save his childhood hero, he finds himself tasked with babysitting Swann, who has a well-documented drinking problem. Meanwhile, a union boss seeks to shut down the show after Kaiser mocks him on air, threatening the future of the program.
