Fifteen-year-old Ruby Gillman discovers she's part of a legendary sea kraken line, destined to become the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas. Despite this, she struggles to fit in at Oceanside High School, especially after her mother forbids her from going to the beach. When she disobeys, Ruby learns she's descended from powerful Kraken queens and must battle vain, power-hungry mermaids to protect the oceans. To do this, she must form an unlikely friendship with Chelsea, a mermaid-turned-human who enrolls at her school.
