The Birdwatcher background

The Birdwatcher

A cancer diagnosis prompts a single mother to reconnect with her estranged birth mother, seeking a sense of belonging and a stable home for her kids.

A social worker, Saffron Wilson, is diagnosed with metastasized cancer after completing chemotherapy. With no obvious guardian in sight, she searches for a solution, leading her to her birth mother, Jane Levesque, who had a no-contact clause in her adoption file. Saffron, now married to Jane Eastman, an ornithologist, decides to go camping with her kids, Lucy and Jonah, to learn more about her birth mother, despite none of them having camping experience. As they set up camp next to the Eastmans, Saffron must decide what's best for her kids, including the fact that Birdy, her birth mother, seems unfit to care for them.
