In the Siberian wilderness, shortly after World War II, Russians and Germans with troubled pasts undergo a bizarre transformation. The victors appear to be taking on the identities of the defeated, and vice versa. Ignat, a Soviet warrior, embodies the larger-than-life image of a victorious hero, but is actually shell-shocked, sick, and broken. The film's heroes develop a fixation on trains and speed, becoming one with their steam engines and giving them human names. They embark on a perilous race through the Siberian forest, putting their own lives and others at risk.
The Edge
Decorated Soviet war hero struggles to come to terms with his fate in a Siberian labor camp, forging unexpected bonds with fellow prisoners from diverse backgrounds as they work together to repair locomotives.
