Steve Raleigh strives to produce a Broadway show, securing backing from Herman Whipple and leading lady Sally Lee. However, his wife Caroline forces him to use a well-known star instead of a newcomer. Meanwhile, Sally's passion for horse training is reignited when she buys a horse she used to train on her family's farm before the Great Depression. With the help of two former vaudevillians, Sonny Ledford and Peter Trott, Sally trains the horse to win a race, providing the necessary funds for Steve's show.
