Bruno Walton and Melvin "Boots" O'Neal, the notorious troublemakers at MacDonald Hall, a prestigious school for boys, are determined to protect their school from rival York Academy. After a disappointing defeat at the swim meet, Bruno discovers that MacDonald Hall is losing top students to York due to poor sports facilities. He decides to raise funds to build a new pool, resorting to unconventional methods like rummage sales, bake-offs, and borderline illegal schemes. With the final swim meet approaching and still short on funds, Bruno must take drastic action to keep Boots from joining York Academy.
