Russian refugee Tanya Borisoff is abandoned in Rangoon, Burma, by her lover Tony Evans, who got involved in gunrunning. Tanya becomes a notorious nightclub hostess, known as "Spot White," but her affairs lead to her deportation. She uses her charm to extort money from the commissioner of police and starts a new life in Mandalay, where she meets Dr. Gregory Burton, who is on a mission to help combat a deadly fever. As they fall in love, Tanya learns about Dr. Burton's past mistakes and decides to start anew with him. However, Tony reappears on the steamer, claiming to have taken his own life, but Tanya discovers he's actually hiding in the hold. When Tony tries to convince her to join him in opening a nightclub in Mandalay, Tanya is torn between her past and her newfound love.
