Hazel Micallef, a senior officer in the Fort Dundas Police Department, struggles with chronic back pain and emotional distress from a past suicide attempt. When a young and inexperienced detective, Ben Wingate, joins her team, they investigate the first homicide in four years, with the victim being a friend of Hazel's mother.
