Professor Walter Vale, a lonely widower, is assigned to give a lecture at a conference in New York City. He finds two illegal immigrants, Tarek and Zainab, living in his apartment. Despite lacking musical talent, Walter is fascinated with Tarek's African drum and Tarek offers to teach him.
