A retired travel writer, estranged and troubled, shocks his reclusive son, a school teacher, by returning to his life after years of absence, disrupting his peaceful existence.

Jake, an unhappy school teacher, is forced to confront his troubled past when his estranged father, Leif, asks for his help with a book about Algonquin Park. After his father's unexpected death, Jake decides to finish the book as a gesture to the father he barely knew. However, his work is interrupted by the arrival of his father's secret family, a mother and child. Despite initial resentment, Jake forms an unlikely bond with his 11-year-old brother, Iggy, who has an uncanny knowledge of a pivotal event from Jake's childhood. Together, they embark on a quest to uncover the truth about their family's secrets and find a sense of connection.
