Two "blood" brothers, Alan and Britt Johnson, leave Carolina in the 1860s to settle in Texas, hoping to find a new life. When the Civil War breaks out, their families are taken hostage by the Comanches and Kiowas, led by Little Buffalo. Britt, being black, is sent to negotiate with the Indians for their release, and he earns the nickname "Black Fox" from the Kiowa chief, Lone Wolf.
