It's the summer of 1983 in northern Italy, where 17-year-old Elio Perlman spends his days in his family's 17th-century villa, indulging in classical music, reading, and flirting with his friend Marzia. Elio's close relationship with his parents, a professor and translator, is filled with high culture and natural beauty. However, his innocence and inexperience with matters of the heart are about to be challenged by the arrival of 24-year-old Oliver, an American graduate student who becomes the intern for Elio's father.
