London-based Emily Wang, a former VJ and girlfriend of rock musician Lee Hauser, is imprisoned for six months after Lee's accidental heroin overdose. Upon release, Emily learns she's lost custody of their young son, Jay, to Lee's parents, who live in Vancouver. Emily agrees to stay away from Jay for two years to clean up her act. She moves to Paris, trying to become clean while working in the rock music scene. Meanwhile, Lee's parents, Albrecht and Rosemary, work to poison Jay's mind against his mother.
