In the 1800s, camels were brought to the American Southwest as pack animals, accompanied by Middle Eastern drivers and tenders. The story follows Ford Smith, a prospector who's struck gold, as he travels to California with his gold and a woman posing as his wife, Mary. They're pursued by three "Arab" villains, Hassan, Kafan, and Ghazili, but manage to evade them. The trio eventually reaches a California Mission Indian settlement, where they're mistaken for the Biblical wise men. The Arabs try to steal Ford's gold, but he instead gives a gift to the ceremony's leader, earning their protection for the rest of the journey. The Arabs are eventually killed, and Ford and Mary reach California, planning to formalize their marriage.
