In the 19th century, a shipwreck leaves a man and woman stranded in the African wilderness. After the woman gives birth to a son, she dies, and the father is killed by an ape. The ape mother adopts the child, raising him as her own. Twenty years later, a captain discovers the "ape" and, uncovering evidence in the treehouse, believes him to be the direct descendant of the Earl of Greystoke, and sets out to reintroduce him to civilization.
