In 16th century Scotland, Connor MacLeod, a Highlander, is fatally wounded in battle. However, he surprisingly survives and is shunned by his clan, who believe he has a pact with the devil. He meets Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, who reveals that MacLeod is immortal unless beheaded. The two immortals engage in a game of killing each other, with only one survivor receiving the powers of the others. In the present day, MacLeod is living in New York City as Russell Edwin Nash, an antique shop owner. He is challenged to a sword fight by Iman Fasil, which he wins, but is arrested by the police. As he recalls his past, he is pursued by the immortal Kurgan, who is determined to kill him.
