A former Bulgarian teenager, Slavi, shares his life story with a customs officer at the airport. He recounts his passionate love for Nelly as a teenager, but she later falls in love with someone else, leading Slavi to a life of trouble and drinking. He defects to the West, settling in the US, where he makes new friends and buys a truck. After being given an arrow with the promise it will bring his love back, Slavi returns to Bulgaria, where he finds Nelly living alone with her daughter, and their paths cross again.
