Up for a promotion, a divorced Chicago-based designer returns to her hometown of Holly Pines for Christmas to reconnect with her adolescent son and pass down family traditions. However, she's dismayed to discover the town's Christmas Festival is struggling, and the miniature train ride, a beloved family tradition, has ceased operation. She reconnects with a high-school acquaintance, a fix-it guy, and together they try to locate and resurrect the train. Along the way, they start to fall for each other, but their budding relationship faces many hurdles, including the outcome of the train ride and their own personal circumstances.
