Red Ryder and Little Beaver arrive just in time to witness a freight coach robbery and the theft of a large bank shipment. The banker, Luther Jennings, is trying to scare Red's aunt, the Duchess, into selling her freight line at a low price. Jennings frames Red for staging a fake stampede and has him arrested. However, Red is determined to clear his name and prove his innocence, teaming up with Captain Glover to find the real culprit.

Red Ryder is constantly hounded by Jennings' gang, who repeatedly raid his freight lines, making off with horses destined for the Army.
