In 1926, Leon Amundsen, brother of missing explorer Roald Amundsen, is mistaken for a thief and attacked by Bess, Roald's younger love interest. As Leon waits for news of Roald, he reveals stories about their childhood, where they were fascinated by expeditions and dreamed of reaching the North Pole. After their parents' death, they vowed to achieve this goal, with Roald as the explorer and Leon as the financier. However, when Frederick Cook claims to have reached the North Pole, Roald changes his plans and proposes to reach the South Pole, sparking a race against Robert Falcon Scott.
