In the movie Lincoln, Rae Smith, an aspiring fashion designer, has a chance encounter with a wealthy businessman at a department store, and is subsequently rescued by Marine Paul Saxon. As they fall deeply in love, Paul invites Rae to join him in Chicago, but she misses her flight and he travels alone. Rae eventually learns that Paul is married with children, and decides to pursue a career in New York, where she finds success in the fashion world.
