Cool and gutsy prisoner Luke Jackson repeatedly escapes and is recaptured while defying authority in a Southern chain gang. Despite his rebellious nature, the prisoners respect Luke, calling him "an original." However, the camp staff relentlessly tries to break Luke's spirit until he finally succumbs to their efforts.
